Bambara ground nut is actually not a nut. It is also referred to as Jugo bean that originates from the African continent and has been cultivated in tropical Africa for centuries. The common name actually appears to be derived from a tribe, the Bambara, a district on the upper Niger near Timbuctoo. Bambara ground nuts are great for a vegetarian curry or as a base for homemade vegan patties.
